The Japan Cosmetic Industry Association (JCIA), chaired by Masahiko Uotani, CEO of Shiseido, was established on April 1, 2023, as a result of the integration of the Japan Cosmetic Industry Federation, the Tokyo Cosmetic Industry Association, the Chubu Cosmetic Industry Association, and the West Japan Cosmetic Industry Association. The JCIA aims to promote the sound development of the cosmetic industry in Japan.
The purpose of establishing the JCIA is to reorganize and strengthen the industry associations under an “All Japan” system. In a post-pandemic society, the JCIA will boldly tackle new challenges facing the cosmetic industry and actively promote the transformation of the industry for a new era. Key activities include:
- Enhancing Japan’s cosmetic industry’s global competitiveness by improving the quality and reliability of cosmetics, understanding market and lifestyle changes, monitoring overseas regulatory trends through exchanges with overseas industry associations, and engaging with regulatory authorities. The JCIA will also strengthen activities contributing to global environmental and sustainability issues.
- To contribute to the sound development of the entire industry by sincerely addressing the opinions and requests of its members, the JCIA will expand its membership services, including providing equal opportunities for training and education to cosmetics manufacturers and sellers nationwide.
Major business activities of the JCIA are:
- Investigation, research, planning, and promotion of cosmetics and quasi-drugs
- Establishment of industry self-standards for cosmetics, participation in standard-setting, etc.
- Information exchange with overseas industry groups
- Dissemination and awareness-raising for consumers
- Holding training sessions, seminars, etc., related to cosmetics
